I’ve previously written about the Danish director Nikolaj Winding Refn and his films. I went to see his last offering, Valhalla Rising, last weekend.
The movie itself is spectacular, but absolutely not a crowd pleaser. Very arty. As the protagonist is a mute viking thrall (played by Mads Mikkelsen) the dialogue does very little to move the film forward. Instead it heavily relies on the crisp photography to tell the story… but what really struck me is how well the the music fits every scene, displaying the emotions of the main character.
The music is written by Peter Peter (of Sort Sol fame) and Peter Kyed (of Svartbag)
